For a first-year student, can housing costs that are covered by scholarships be used for off-campus housing?

All scholarships and financial aid are applied to the student’s OSU billing account at the beginning of each term and will first cover all the charges on their billing account. If the amount of their aid exceeds the amount of their bill, they will receive the excess via a refund check, which they can then use for other education-related expenses (books, rent, transportation, etc.). We encourage students to set up direct deposit if they believe they will receive a refund as it is much easier and faster than a mailed check. See Information on setting up direct deposit.
